NOVA IBEX 2

Nova have replaced their highly acclaimed lightweight paraglider, the Ibex, with the new Ibex 2. Nova say the second-generation version is tougher and more durble than the original, both in terms of abrasion and tear resistance, and comes with Nova’s full warranty, guaranteeing materials and workmanship for three years. The Ibex 2 is available in two sizes: 15m (for 60-90kg takeoff loads) and 17m (for 60-100kg). Small and compact, it weighs only 3.1 or 3.5kg, but it can take a relatively high wing loading. This opens it up to various possible usages. Its size makes it a good mountaineering glider. Heavily loaded, it is a toy for strong-wind days, or a dynamic fun wing; less loaded it is a good everyday wing, and durable enough to suit this role.Construction-wise, flexible polyamide rods support the leading edge and aid canopy inflation, and ‘dirt holes’ in the wingtips make it easier to chase out that unwanted launch debris. It is certified EN D, and is pretty dynamic when heavily loaded, but designer Markus Prantl says that more lightly-loaded its behaviour is much more benign.Although it has only just come out, it is already showing itself to be a popular choice among pilots. The paragliding section of the 2011 Dolomitenmann was won by Markus Prantl, with Paul Guschlbauer in second, both on Nova Ibex 2s. In fact, eight out of the top ten pilots were on them, an impressive seal of approval for Nova.www.nova-wings.com
